Definition:

Fixed irrational notion held stubbornly in the face of evidence to the contrary. Beliefs, practice, concept or act resulting from ignorance; fear of the unknown, erroneous concept of causality. Often a religious element surviving the loss of a concept. Reflects some truths no longer known or truth which has changed its aspect. Elements of old now forgotten knowledge surviving in the mass mind.
