Generally considered to be located in the Glastonbury area (Avalonia) it was the ‘Gateway to the Otherworld’, the place of departure for the spirits of the dead.  From here the spirits ‘went West’, drawn by affinity to their compatible states of existence in the ‘Otherworld’, or the astral dimension.  A whole volume of mystic lore is associated with the Place of Departure, most of which is a garbled form of the original concept.  Associated with the earthly Avalon is Havalona which some have viewed as having a place in the Astral but which is, in fact, located in stellar space.  However, whether one believes that Havalona is located in the Astral or in the cosmic whole is irrelevant.
