Sect

A sect comes into existence to remedy a deficiency in the body of orthodoxy. Sects do not manifest where there are no defects. Consequently a sect is generally a subdivision of a religion whose adherents have certain rites or beliefs peculiar to themselves, which separate them from their co-religionists. Christianity originated as a sect and there is nothing wrong with sectarianism if it promotes spiritual progress and is not a backward step.
