Occult

Hidden, known only to a few, the presently unexplainable. Best known through what it is not, that is to say a mysterious system embodying strange practices and inexplicable effects. Is often associated with witchcraft and spiritualism in the minds of the ignorance. Actually its full designation is ‘The Occult Arts and Sciences’. That is, the field of knowledge which should rightly be within the scientific orbit but which orthodox religion and mundane science ignore. Electricity was once considered to be ‘occult’, so also was magnetism and even gas. Outside the area of the presently known their stretches a vast unexplored area of the unknown. Those who seek to explore the mundane areas of the unknown are called scientists, while those who seek to explore the supernatural areas are called occultists.
